Deputy Director of Natural Resources Design

*ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES* Natural Resources Capital Design and Construction is a team of designers, foresters, project managers and construction managers who translate natural areas management goals for Parks’ forests, wetlands, and waterways into capitally funded construction projects. We design and construct wetland, shoreline, and forest restoration projects, stormwater green infrastructure and public access corridors within sensitive habitats and natural areas. Major Responsibilities • Under direction of the Director, with very great latitude for the exercise of independent judgment or action, supervise a group of landscape architects and designers, including administrative oversight and disciplinary process when necessary. • Ensure all projects have well-considered designs and are completed within budget and in accordance with the approved schedule. This will require project tracking and reporting as well as workload prioritization to ensure schedules are met. • Review contract drawings and specifications prepared by staff in accordance with the established project schedule to ensure work meets division and community goals and all applicable interagency codes, regulations, filings, and approvals. • Represent the Agency at meetings and present projects to agency stakeholders, other governmental agencies and departments, contractors and their representatives, consultants, community members and the public. This includes presenting internally at Commissioner-level meetings as needed and, in cases when a direct report is absent, in order to maintain project schedule. • Work with the Commissioners, Chief and Deputy Chief of Natural Resources, Staff Scientists, Maintenance and Operations staff and other stakeholders to ensure that designs maximize ecological function and/or reduce ecological impacts while addressing Agency and community goals • Work with Deputy Director of Construction to ensure design team is providing timely responses to construction team, that design intent is being fulfilled, and that lessons learned in the field during construction are reviewed and incorporated into active and future designs. • Maintain quality assurance and quality control. • Sign and seal contract documents and related applications for agencies having jurisdiction. • Assist with hiring and training. • In special cases, serve as Project Manager on projects as approved by the Chief of Natural Resources. • May represent the Director and perform all associated tasks, including supervision of the entire team of landscape designers, as needed. Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect and a master’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in landscape architectural work; or NOTE: Current New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect must be maintained for the duration of your employment. The college or university must be accredited by regional, national, professional, or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). 2. A valid New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect and four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in landscape architectural work. NOTE: Current New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect must be maintained for the duration of your employment. 1. A valid New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect and a master’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and three (3) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in landscape architectural work; or NOTE: Current New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect must be maintained for the duration of your employment. 2. A valid New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect; and four (4) years full-time, satisfactory experience in landscape architectural work. NOTE: Current New York State Registration as a Landscape Architect must be maintained for the duration of your employment. SPECIAL NOTE: In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project. 1. Preferred Skills

1. At least five years of experience serving as the lead on a complex design portfolio, including leading a multidisciplinary team of professionals or managing consultant contracts. 2. Knowledge of sustainable construction methods, ecological restoration and native plants. 3. Strong design skills and the ability to communicate design concepts in graphic and written form. 4. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam Revu with ability to learn proprietary Agency software systems. 5. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. 6. A commitment to teamwork and an integrated approach to project delivery. 7.
